Student Services

Extended School Services (ESS)

Extended School Services provide additional academic services to students outside normal school hours. ESS provides free tutoring in basic subjects twice a week at all grade levels. The services are offered after school. Students are provided a snack and transportation in addition to the individualized tutoring needed to master skills necessary to progress in their academic work. Students are referred to the program by teachers or parents. Certified teachers work with small groups to provide assistance in many areas such as studying for a test or doing homework or learning a new concept or skill. Extended School Services also includes summer instructional programs to help students makeup work they have fallen behind in or repeat courses they have failed. Programs vary in length based on grade level.

Family Resource and Youth Service Center

The Family Resource and Youth Service Center enhances students’ abilities to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote early learning and successful transition into school, academic achievement and well-being and into later life. At South Elementary, the Family Resource Center offers the following:

*To break down barriers between school and home by providing contact, on behalf of school personnel, to parents/guardians of students attending South Elementary.

*Provide students with monthly and yearly attendance incentives for outstanding attendance.

*Provide special programs after school for students in 3rd through 5th grades. Programs include: child care, tutoring, homework help, and after school camps (all of which are held at Corbin High School).

*Promote fundraising for attendance and testing incentives.

If interested in any of these services, contact Jennifer Knuckles, Family Resource Coordinator at 526-7362.

School Based Counseling

Often students need someone to talk with concerning school problems, personal concerns, or difficulties with family issues or relationships.  This program provides a trained counselor to help students with these issues or refer them to appropriate agencies for additional services. If you have questions about this program or require further assistance please call the school office at 528-1651.

Food Services

The Food Service Department serves breakfast and lunch at all five schools in the district. Approximately 1,700 meals are served each day not including additional meals served to special programs such as day care, preschool and other contracted services. Food Service also has a community catering service which is used for banquets, weddings, receptions and other gatherings.

Transportation

The Corbin Independent School District has 18 buses which transport over 1,000 children to and from school daily. Approximately 18 routes are run in addition to extra services such as field trips and transportation to athletic events, conferences, conventions and academic competitions.
